General Volunteer Information:
Expanding lacrosse in NYC needs coaches who have played the game
If you have enjoyed playing the game of lacrosse, especially at the college level, you might want to join CityLax Inc.’s Coach NYC Lacrosse program and begin to give back to the game. Below is our Coach’s Information sheet outlining our philosophy and what is involved in coaching in our youth, middle school, and high school programs.
Coaching Principles Followed/Refined Since 1996:
1. Promote/spread the game of lacrosse in the five boroughs of New York City with enthusiasm and the ability to make it fun.
2. Provide the best lacrosse coaching/mentoring available to our kids and families.
3. Teach lacrosse skills and values as they pertain to the betterment of the practice group or team as well as the individual player.
4. Honor the game of lacrosse; always teach and respect its rich traditions.
5. Maintain the focus of lacrosse as a “spring” sport while encouraging, but not requiring, participation in off-season clinics, leagues, and instructional groups inside and outside our program.
6. Respect/build on the athletic skills our kids have learned from playing other sports.
7. Treat each practice and game as opportunities for “teachable moments” for our players and their families.
8. Respect the fact that playing field sports in NYC requires maintaining a commitment to the care for the facilities we use. |
